How I’m Preparing For Summer 2018

Summer is looming and it will creep up on us before we even realise it’s here. It feels like we’ve been waiting for years in the UK as the weather has been dreadful. Snowstorms in March? No thank you. Bring the sun, please. I miss the days where I could walk home at 6pm and actually see where I’m going, or actually wanting to take a brisk stroll in the sunshine. Summer just makes me smile a little wider and walk a little more confidently.

Every year there are certain preparations that take place so I know I’m ready for whatever summer may throw at me. Summer is the time for spontaneous plans so I like to make sure I’m ready. Fruity ciders in beer gardens and outdoor gigs are aplenty. From dresses to skincare, I’m going to talk you through everything I do to get ready for the warmer weather.

Loving this dress from @asos, makes me feel so beautiful ❤️ #asosdress #asos #asosloves #fashiongirl #asosloves #sunnyspain #spanishgirl

Trends change as seasons go by, which ultimately means we end up buying new clothes every year. A total nightmare for the bank balance but we secretly love it. Every year I try to invest in some key pieces like a good pair of denim shorts, sandals, sunglasses and skirts. I usually just head to Primark, New Look and Matalan for my tops because I hate spending a bomb on such little material. I absolutely adore summer dresses too, they’re fun and easy to throw on and make a full outfit. Bright colours, bold prints and floaty skirts are my go-to. I tend to use Latest Deals, a website where you can browse some amazing deals and includes Topshop, Matalan, New Look, Oasis and more. I’ve been finding some amazing bargains on there so it’s worth a little peep for your holiday box. In particular, I love this Pink number from Miss Selfridge reduced to £5. I mean, what?! This Lace Up Topshop dress too. I really want it!

Sun damage is a huge reason why our skin ages and gets damaged, finding an sunscreen that will protect your face but also sit well with makeup is mega important for me. In previous years I always thought that the SPF in my makeup would do, but after watching this video by Wayne Goss, (my favourite YouTuber and makeup guru) it’s made me realise I should really buy a facial SPF that will actually protect my skin. The sun catches you even when you think it isn’t. Check out his video on his favourite sunscreens, I’ll be purchasing one of those for sure!

A new lip colour is always on the agenda for summer. I love my bright pinks, reds and oranges for the summer paired with a simple cat eye or a pair of sunglasses. They make any outfit pop and I love being able to experiment with colour in such an easy and versatile way.

Changing my hair colour is a big deal for the summer, I have balayage so I like to go even blonder and brighter in the summer. I still haven’t got to my perfect shade of blonde yet so let’s hope I manage to hit that this year. Embarking on a new hair journey can make you feel much more confident, may it be adding a few more layers or completely re-doing the colour.

More beauty prep, I know. But ensuring you have a colourful pedicure is vital. Personally, I find it easy just to get shellac or gel polish on my toes and forget about it for a few weeks. Toe colours take FOREVER to grow out, seriously. So just treat yo self and get gels. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone on a night out and forgot to paint my toes so at the last minute done a dire job and smudged the lot, forcing my foot into my shoe as I’m leaving the house. I usually opt for a red or pink on my toes!

Tan. Oh fake tan, how I love to hate you. A comprehensive review of my favourites will be coming up soon because I could talk about them forever, and I really want to do a bloody good review for you all. AKA before and afters, a week check up – the lot. Might take me a while but I’ll get there. Summer is just more effort, fact. Shaving, exfoliating, moisturising and tanning can easily be forgotten about in the winter because who even sees your legs under thick thermal tights?! I do feel better with a banging tan though. All worth it.

Lastly, I make a summer bucket list of everywhere I want to go. This year I hope to go away on holiday, even though I don’t have one planned yet – I bet it will be a last minute job! There’s also plenty of places in the UK I’d love to go to and I have a beautiful beach right at my doorstep, I plan to utilise it more as I’ve neglected it the past few years! I find when I write down everything I want to do, I’m more likely to do it. I always have all of these amazing summer plans and I just end up forgetting about half of the things I want to do and never do them!

This summer is about making memories, enjoying myself and exploring. I vow not to worry about being ‘beach body ready’ and just focus on being happy.

Better Brows with Jags Beauty

It’s hard to trust people, especially with your brows. I have trust issues with anyone touching my brows after they were threaded to death. I was left with barely any brows and it took me a long time to grow them back, and it wasn’t a pretty sight. I like to have neat brows constantly, never a hair out of place, so growing them out was a huge annoyance because I never felt like they looked right.

I met Jag at the Supercut Newcastle event and she threaded and waxed my brows for me. I loved them, she knew the shape that I was going for. Jag explained that I have many fair hairs that will take to brow tinting and will make my brows look fuller and will enable me to get more of the shape I wanted. I like an arched brow, very defined and full. I’m not a fan of the thin brow with no shape, I don’t feel as though it compliments my face shape and especially with having dark hair now, I like them to be full.

At Jags Beauty, located inside of Supercuts in Eldon Square, it is £15 for a brow tint and thread. Jag prefers to thread and wax to get the perfect shape, I don’t mind either. The value for money is insane, at Superdrug it is £8 for threading alone and no way will I ever achieve the shape or definition that Jag gets my brows!

Here’s a before and after…

Before Brows After Brows

They look much thicker, fuller and defined instantly. From start to finish it took about 10-15 minutes, with the tint on. I never want to go anywhere else for my brows and nails now, Jag is a master at what she does.

Not only is she a master, she is such a lovely person and it’s always a delight to have a chat with her while I’m getting my brows and nails done!

Jags Nails

Other services that Jag offers are;

  • Gel Nails
  • Gel Toes
  • Cluster Lashes
  • Manicures

Bookings and walk-ins are welcome, which is fab because that really caters for everyone!

Superfood Nails | Nails Inc.

Nails Inc Fenwick

You’d never really think of mixing nail polish with superfoods, would you? Well Nails Inc. did and they’re onto a winner. The new products are all about creating stronger, healthier nails using detoxifying treatment formulas.

Nails Inc Nail Polish and Treatment

Nails Inc. invited me to an event in Fenwick, Newcastle. I’d never used anything from the brand before and due to previously working in an environment where I wasn’t allowed anything on my nails, I’d never even had my nails done before (apart from once, which was a bad experience) That’s all changed now though. The lovely Amanda, from Nails Inc. quickly told us all about the benefits of having healthy nails.

I instantly regretted my years of neglect on my poor nails. They’re brittle, snap very easily and grow at the most awkward lengths. Which is probably why I don’t bother with them much. If you’re like me, and every time you paint your nails they smudge, painting and looking after your nails can be a chore. Especially when you work in a job where they  can snap and break easily. That is why Nails Inc. have brought out two new products, based on the superfood trend that’s happening right now. The Overnight Detox Mask and the Nail Grow Treatment.

First of all, the Overnight Detox Mask is a treatment of which you pop all over your nails, massage into the nail and nail bed just before you’re about to go to sleep, you then wash it off in the morning. It’s star ingredients are Green Tea, Acai and Spirulina which helps nails grow stronger and treat a weak and damaged nails. Something I know all too well. I love this mask, I’ve used it a few times now and already noticed a huge difference in the way my nails are behaving! They’re not bendy or breakable anymore. Sometimes, the whole ‘Superfood’ thing can be a gimmick to sell products, but not in this instance. Nails Inc. have done their research and made sure that their products are not only innovative, but actually work. That’s one thing I love about the brand, they’re not only passionate about doing it first, but doing it properly.

In my gift bag I received the Nails Inc NailKale Superfood Base Coat, which is an antioxidant base coat infused with kale extract which strengthens nails. It’s an amazing base coat which has keratin hardening and activation which stimulates nail growth as well as ensuring the nails look healthy and bright with a glossy finish. This is perfect not only with a polish on top, but also on it’s own for a fresh look.

The next nail treatment is the Nail Grow Treatment which is powered by Matcha, a newly fashionable superfood. This treatment is aimed at regenerating the nail bed and includes plenty of matcha powder andgreen tea leaf powder. The high antioxidant content protects the nail from damage, and also revitalises the Keratin in the nails. This nail treatment is really cool, it’s a gel-like consistency which once on the nails, you rub in. It contains little beads full of Vitamin A & E which burst when you rub it in, to give extra hydration and moisture to the nail.  I’m in love with this treatment too, both the Overnight Detox Mask and the Nail Grow Treatment work so well together and have made me love my nails again! They’re looking so healthy and glowing. The treatments are £15 each, but will last a very long time and I already know I’ll be repurchasing when mine run out.

Nails Inc Nail Grow Treatment Powered By Matcha

It wasn’t until I got my nails done at the event that I realised how important it is to have nice looking nails. Not only does it complete an outfit or look good, it makes me feel better about myself. I feel my hands look more feminine and I feel empowered and confident. I’ll definitely be a regular at their nail bar. In fact, I’m going tonight to get them done again!

Nails Inc Manicure Mayfair Market

Not only was I gifted those two amazing nail treatments, I was also given two gorgeous colours. The first one was Mayfair Market, a rose gold shade the world is going crazy for. It’s the perfect balance of metallic and sophistication and I’ve barely had it off my nails. It looks gorgeous as an accent nail too! This polish is part of the Sweet Almonds Collection and has a sweet almond oil base and is full of matcha powder, which yet again focuses on looking after your nails. The Mayfair Market is priced at £14 and is available in Spring.

Nails Inc Mayfair Market

The next colour was London Court, a beautiful pale pink which looks gorgeous on any skin tone. And there’s also the Vitamin E Cuticle Oil pen which you just twist, pop the oil into your cuticles, rub in and away you go! Perfect for hydrating the cuticles and making them healthy.

So, what do you think? Do you get your nails done regularly or like me, do you usually neglect them? I’ve officially seen the light now though and I’ll be looking after them from now on. If you ever see me with chipped nail polish – tell me off!!
