I thought I would try something a little different on my blog today. As you may know (or not!) I’m primarily a beauty blogger. However like the rest of us, I love food. I’m a frequent visitor to a restaurant called The Fat Hippo Underground in Newcastle, just off the Theatre Royal so I thought I would do a little review for you.
Overall I’ve been about four or five times now but I’m one of *those* people who gets the same thing every time. The Texas burger which consists of onion rings, bacon, cheese, bbq sauce and two burger patties. Everything about this I love. Onion rings are one of my favourite foods in the world when done properly. Which, these are. They almost melt in your mouth. I would easily say that this is the best burger I have ever had.
The burger itself has a slight spice to it which gives some amazing flavour. It’s seasoned to perfection. The burger patties aren’t too thick and they almost fall apart which makes for easy eating. Topped with a brioche bun and finished with thrice cooked chips and salad on the side, it will be enough to satisfy your every need. Unless that is, you require dessert.
Not only do the burgers taste amazing but the service is excellent. Each time I have visited I am always made to feel welcomed and comfortable. The Fat Hippo Underground is great value for money. Between 5pm-6pm Monday – Friday it’s Hippo Hour. One course is £7.50, two courses are £10 and three courses are £12. They also do a Fast Hippo lunch menu which is available Tuesday to Friday between 12-3pm where burgers are only £5! Definitely worth checking out if you’re a student! There aren’t many places that do great food at a reasonable price like this in Newcastle.
All of the beef burgers are gluten free and if beef isn’t to your taste, pork, chicken and veggie options are available. Complete with a kids menu, they really do cater for everyone. ‘But what will you wash it down with?’ I hear you ask. Well they have a great drinks menu packed with reasonably priced drinks including ‘naughty slushes’ and ‘naughty shakes.’
Follow The Fat Hippo Underground on twitter here and visit their website for a full view of the menu; http://fat-hippo.co.uk/page/underground
I would recommend booking early to avoid disappointment as it is usually rather busy!
Do let me know if you have been or intend on going and your thoughts,
Katie X
