Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks Review

May 9, 2016 by Katie Meehan 9 Comments

Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Swatches

I’ve abandoned buying the usual bullet lipsticks, truly given up. I’ve tried almost everything and NOTHING stays on my lips. Ever. No matter what I try or how much I spend, which annoys me to no end. I love Mac lipsticks and I find their colour choice insane, but their mattes are drying on me and incredibly smudgy. The whole liquid lipstick craze has been around for a few years now, but until recently the only well-reviewed ones that were out there (I’m looking at Anastasia Beverly Hills and Dose of Colors) weren’t available in the UK and I didn’t know that shipping services existed, so I wasn’t able to try them.Until now.

Gerard Cosmetics brought out their version of liquid lipsticks called ‘Hydra Matte’ a while ago now, with Beauty Bay stocking them. Something held me back and for months I didn’t click the ‘buy now’ button on my online purchases. A few weeks ago however, Beauty Bay had an offer on, which meant if I bought a product from Gerard Cosmetics I got another half price. They had all of the shades I wanted in stock, including the new ones. ‘1995’ is a lipstick shade I LOVE, it suits me very well and I love it to bits, so I had to have it’s liquid counterpart.

The shades I got were (from left to right) ‘Serenity, Everything Nice, Immortal and 1995’ and as you can see with the swatches, they are extremely pigmented and matte. The colours are absolutely phenomenal and I am so happy with my choices! Doing the swatch on my arm not only showed me their colours, but also their longevity. I couldn’t get the swatches off my arm fully with a makeup wipe.

The shades are so long lasting, I didn’t expect the red to apply as matte and full as it did. It lasted all throughout breakfast (I had a fry up!) and required minimal touch up. So do all of the colours, they last impeccably well and I couldn’t suggest them enough. They’re very reasonably priced at £9.50 on Beauty Bay, which is less than most lipsticks. They have lots more colours online and I can’t wait to buy more, I’m already eying up ‘Ballet Slipper’.

I can apply these in the morning, around 8am and not have to worry about re-applying until after I’ve had my lunch. Even then it’s usually the tiniest bit of wear. You only need a very thin coat of these, the more product you use, the easier it becomes to flake off. One thin, even coat is more than enough and is truly pigmented. I’m so happy I’ve found a lipstick I don’t have to worry about on a night out!

Overall, I’d rate these a solid 9/10. They are pigmented, long lasting, come in amazing range of shades and are extremely reasonably priced. They’re not drying at all and compliment my skin tone beautifully. What colour is your favourite?

I have the same problem, I tried the Butter London Lip crayon, and found that they dried out quickly, so I will have to try these!

It’s a shame traditional lipsticks don’t last on you! But at the same time, these liquid lipsticks seem so good that you’ve found a great alternative. The shades are really pretty, and although I haven’t heard a lot about Gerard Cosmectics but they seem so worth trying, especially for that price. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but Serenity is the shade I’d wear the most I think! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to try products by Gerard Cosmetics for ages now as I’ve heard so much about them! I have the same problem of buying lippies by them not lasting all day. I love the shade choice
