Oh shaving, something men and women can both sympathise with. The endless cuts, expensive shaving foam and worst of all, razors that last about two minutes.
I don’t know what it is with women’s razors, I think they presume that we have more money to spend on becoming hair-free (which FYI, we don’t) therefore we an afford to repurchase them every single week. Its always the same, the razor is on ‘offer’ for half price, but the blades are a FORTUNE. Like really, £20 for a few blades?! Thats mad. They really do con us.
For some reason, I don’t know why, companies presume that we need razors that aren’t as sharp and with flimsy handles. How many times has the rubbish plastic handle slipped out of your hand and almost sliced your leg open? Way too many times. Have you ever used a ‘mens’ razor to shave with? It’s like a whole new shave.
My friend told me about Friction Free Shaving, a subscription service where they send a razor out with new heads every month, so that you can change the blades ONCE A WEEK! Making sure that it’s hygienic and there’s no build up of bacteria. It also ensures that you get a great shave every time. Many of us forget to change our blades (and don’t because it’s expensive) so it’s nice to have something delivered through your letterbox. Long gone are the days of walking into boots for razors and coming out with three new lipsticks, an eyeliner, new contour kit and makeup wipes, obviously forgetting the razors.
I knew when I checked their website and saw that there was a rose gold metal razor, I knew that it was for me. No more rubbish flimsy plastic handles. No more dropping the razor because it’s weighty and will stay in your hand throughout. Oh, and did I mention that it looks bloody gorgeous?!
I picked the Samantha razor, it’s rose gold and has 5 blades, with a vitamin E strip to give a soft finish. It also has a rubber guard that lifts hairs up, so that you get a closer shave. It has a mean pivot, so catching every party of your body isn’t a problem (knees, anyone?)
It doesn’t have any shaving balm on it, so you do need to use a foam/gel/whatever. But you know what?! Don’t use a shaving foam. Use coconut oil. Rub it in your palms to soften it and melt it, slather it all over your skin and shave away. It also acts as a moisturiser so you don’t have to worry about getting out the shower, freezing and applying a cold moisturiser whilst just wishing you were wrapped up in your pjs already! I swear by shaving with coconut oil, I’ll never go back. It’s much much cheaper too now that coconut oil is available almost everywhere.
I love that I’m now smoooooth and I don’t have to worry about buying razors anymore. A huge thank you to Friction Free Shaving for sending me the Samantha razor to review, it’s truly changed the game for me.
Check out FFS HERE and let me know if you decide to start the subscription. They start from £3 up to £7.

Shaving can be such a pain to do, and changing the blades or buying a whole new razor can just suck – this sounds like an amazing service!

I’m the worst at coming out of Boots with loads of things I didn’t need and not actually buying the thing I went in for, so that made me giggle! I read somewhere today that women’s razors cost more than men’s today and I was so shocked – perhaps that’s naive of me but I’d never even considered it before! Great post x

Gosh you’re a genius, I’d never thought of using coconut oil as shaving gel! The uses are endless x
