I have kept this a secret for so long and I feel like I’m about to burst now I can finally share this with you all! The most exciting project of my life, my short film with BBC Three is finally live! I can’t tell you how much this means to me, to get the opportunity to share my story and hopefully inspire others to be comfortable in their own skin and believe in themselves.
Growing up with a facial disfigurement was challenging and extremely difficult to comprehend sometimes. In and out of hospital, the pain and coming to terms that I’d have to live (and look) like this for the rest of my life. It wasn’t easy and I’m so happy that I’ve had the constant love and support around me so that I can proudly say, I am happy and confident.
Makeup isn’t usually the first thing you’d expect someone with a facial disfigurement to love, I don’t know why but there seems to be this weird stigma about it. Using makeup lets me reclaim ownership over my face, something I feel in the past I haven’t really had much say in. I can express myself and you know what? I just love it so much. It’s the one thing that can relax me and that makes me feel so creative.
A huge thank you to BBC for giving me this opportunity to have my voice heard, I hope you all enjoy the video and thank you so much for watching.
