How To Slay the Instagram Vibe In Your Home

June 4, 2019 by Katie Meehan Leave a Comment

It’s one thing to stick a deposit down on your shared ownership in Brighton but it’s quite another to make your home into a pinterested palace with more flattering angles than JLo and more perfectly placed features than Leonardo Dicaprio’s face. Being instagrammable is the new feng shui so get it right and while there’s no proof you’ll have better relationships and vibrate at a higher frequency or anything like that but your Instagram page will look pretty dam cool.

One word: Plants.

Biggest home decor trend from IKEA to instagram in the last 3 years, plants appear to be the only accessory you need to decorate your home these days. In fact you might as well pack up, move to the Peruvian rainforest and stick a couch in the undergrowth because when it comes to this trend the more plants the better. Stick some ivy on the windowsill, hang a spider plant from the ceiling, throw a cactus on the mantelpiece, plant a palm tree in your front room, you name it the more foliage the better.

Mustard isn’t just for cheese toasties

Newest colour trend this year: mustard. Yep finally we have climbed out of the minimalistic hole of everything has to be a brooding shade of grey and actually bring some colour into the abode. Think 70s yellows, teals and turquoises, let loose with the paintbrush and do your worst. This year is all about brightening up the home like come on, all we’ve had this year is Brexit, the James Charles feud and another last place in Eurovision, we need a good influx of light in our lives.

Frame your Faves

Good news! Your name doesn’t have to end with Wolfgang to have your own grand art feature wall in your living room anymore. Well it probably does if you’re looking to get hold of an original Picasso for opposite the shoe rack in the hall but otherwise instagram is booming with these abstract art pieces that (don’t worry guys) you can buy in B&M. From black and white brush sweeps slightly resembling a woman if you squint your eyes real hard to Aldi’s middle aisle attempt at an Andy Warhol, you can get this look for less and add it to the gram.

Fairy lights for the win

Let’s be honest, everything looks better with fairy lights. Dining table looking drab? Put fairy lights on it. Bed board needs a spark of romance? Put fairy lights on it. Kitchen looking cold? Put fairy lights on it. Broke your leg? Put fairy lights on it. Never underestimate the power of the fairy lights. Easily matched with just about everywhere in the home you can spice up your space whether you live with your gran on you’ve bought your first shared ownership in Manchester.

So while your shared ownership in Manchester might not be featured on the cover of Elle Decor, whose needs to be when you can publish your own homely art on your beautifully customised instagram page. Everyone wants a piece of the squeaky clean, definitely don’t have two kids that are about to discombobulate the seamless display of carefully coordinated cushions, instagram life. Just a warning my friends, or reassurance for most of us: it’s not real so don’t sweat it!
