Sleep is one of the most important parts of our day and my bedtime beauty routine is no exception from that. I’m the type of person that needs a lot of sleep and a good wind-down each night, so my night time routine is a bit of a ritual.
Firstly, I like to set the mood in my bedroom to wind down, I’ll light one of my favourite Jonathan Ward candles, tidy around and focus on making my space feel more homely. I have a string of fairy lights that take up a full wall in my bedroom, and switching them on really makes me feel so relaxed! I think that looking after your mental health is just as important as my beauty routine, so this is my first step so I can enjoy the rest. A product that I love for night-time is the Elemis Peptide4 Plumping Pillow Facial Hydrating Sleep Mask. My skin loves hydration and this sleep mask plumps replenishes and rehydrates my skin. It is a super cooling gel mask that once popped onto the skin, creates a biomimetic veil that helps to prevent overnight water loss, which makes my skin look plumped and feeling super hydrated. It’s priced at £49, but is worth every penny. I love this mask and use it a few times a week. It is a heavier product on my skin, but I use it with the rest of my beauty products.
Another mask I love, which is quite different, is The Ordinary AHA and BHA mask. It’s priced at around £5 and is an acid peel which exfoliates the skin. It resurfaces your skin and is great for me, because I can get the occasional dry spot and there’s really no point in putting expensive products into dead skin! This is very potent though, so I suggest building your tolerance up and doing your research before you start using it, but it really is a game-changer.
I do have many face masks and rotate between them all, but one type of mask you rarely hear about is a hair mask. I swear by the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, it is a pre-shampooing treatment so I often leave it on DRY hair overnight, wrapped in a big bun and wash it in the morning. Philip Kingsley is one of my favourite haircare brands out there. This product was actually designed for Audrey Hepburn designed to give her that movie star bounce that she was missing. It pops shine back into my hair and contains Castor Oil and Hydrolyzed Elastin to give your hair hydration and repair after heat damage. The best part? It’s suitable for all hair types! If I’m going to really indulge, this is the product I’ll use when my hair needs a little TLC.
Cleansing my makeup off is extremely important if I go to sleep with makeup on, I break out. That’s why I find it SUPER important to double cleanse and use a flannel. The cleansers I use is the Warm-Up 4 in 1 Cleanser from Gym For Your Skin. It’s great at cleansing your makeup off and making your skin extremely moisturised. My skin doesn’t feel stripped of any hydration afterwards, which I often find with some cleansers. This cleanser has vitamins A, B, C and E as well as lactic, magic and salicylic acid. In fact, it has so much in it I’d spend all day typing it all out! It’s so full of goodness it’s like a superfood for your skin.
I struggle a lot with hormonal breakouts, so for a spot treatment, I use the Bioderma Sebium Global Intense Purifying Care, which I love! I also love using the Ole Henriksen Glow2Oh Dark Spot Toner, it is helping banish my spot scarring and improves my skin texture overall. I don’t use this on the days I’m using my Ordinary AHA, as they clash, but I do love this!
