Over the past few years, as I’ve reached my (almost) mid 20’s, a lot about me has changed. I have found my path in life, my passions and my desires. One thing I have not found is my signature scent. Something so personal and defining. There are times in your life that a scent can completely take you back to. ‘Charlie Red’ reminds me of PE class when I was around 10 years old, trying to fit in with my older sister who used to always faintly smell of it as she walked past me. Chanel No. 9 reminds me of (one too many) sneaky sprays of my mum’s perfume when I was 12 years old, before we’d head out to a party or visiting a friends house. My favourite scent memory of all, a bath and body works spray reminds me of New York. It takes me back to the early morning pancakes, the sun shining through the high rises and hitting my camera lens as I try and take in the magical place I’m in. It was always a dream of mine to visit.
Within a few seconds, you are pulled back to a memory. Scent can trigger something so bittersweet and for me, but finding that scent that will define my 20s has been a lot of pressure. At the moment, I am really enjoying the Maison Margiela ‘Replica’ perfumes, I bought the travel size versions to try them all out. At £30 for 10 2ml sizes, they’re expensive and gone within a few sprays. Tom Ford, Maison Margiela and Miller Harris are all brands I have wanted to try but just couldn’t justify the £80+ for a fragrance I wasn’t sure I’d like. Every time I’m in Fenwicks, I lust after the Tom Ford Noir Extreme and I’ve been waiting to add it to a birthday list.
That is where Scent & Co have changed my perfume world, they are a brand designed to fill the gap between trialling a fragrance and committing to one. I had heard about scent subscriptions before and was very intrigued to try one out for myself, but I couldn’t find a service that stocked the premium, luxury brands that I adore.
Noir Extreme is available on the Scent & Co website, and I have completely fallen head over heels for the fragrance even more. It is dark, sexy and full. Exactly what I long for in an evening scent. It is described as a male scent online, but I believe that any good, true scent is not made towards a particular gender, but more the individual person. “An amber-drenched, woody oriental fragrance with a tantalizing and delectable heart” It is definitely a date night scent meant for late nights, espresso martinis and moonlight.
For £14.95 a month, you pick a scent from their wide selection on their website and it is delivered to you. Each month, a new scent. Or, the same one – if you’ve found a keeper. Hermes, Penhaligon’s, Victor and Rolf, Yves Saint Laurent and more all feature on the website. The fragrance comes in a 10ml vial which lasts 30 days – however if you’re like me and like to keep your Tom Ford for special occasions, a lot longer than that. You re-use the packaging each month and simply twist to replace the scent. Use code “KATIE30″ for 30% off your first subscription.
I love to try new scents and mix it up when I go out, so I’m very happy to be using this service. With over 450 fragrances to choose from, for all genders, I know I’ll not get bored and I really look forward to trying a new scent. I think I am going to go with one of the Penhaligon’s scent next month…
Would you try a luxury scent subscription? If so, what fragrance would you pick?
