Summer is almost in full swing, and I can’t help but get excited about what’s new and the upcoming trends that will undoubtedly suck me in and this year – I want to be prepared. This season offers a delightful array of design possibilities, from vibrant colours to breezy silhouettes. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the top five women’s fashion trends that will be making waves in the summer of 2023!
- Pastel Palette Bliss:
Prepare to be enchanted by the world of pastel hues, as they claim their well-deserved spotlight this summer. Oh yes, they’re back. Think soothing lavender, refreshing mint green, delicate baby pink, and serene sky blue. These gentle shades will grace everything from flowing dresses to tailored separates, evoking an air of femininity and timeless sophistication. Embrace lightweight fabrics like chiffon, silk, or linen to float through the season in ethereal elegance. I’m excited about this one and looking forward to giving pastels a go as an adult – styling them more chic and sophisticated. Matilda Djerf in the image below makes the pastel two-piece look so elegant and I for one, cannot wait to buy some Djerf Avenue this summer.
- Retro Resurgence:
Get ready to embrace a blast from the past as retro fashion takes centre stage in summer 2023. This is great for us addicted to vinted and charity shop-shopping. Drawing inspiration from the iconic styles of the 1970s and 1990s, this trend brings back the carefree spirit of bygone eras. Imagine relaxed flared pants, high-waisted denim, and bohemian maxi dresses that transport you to a world of boho-chic delight. Add a touch of nostalgia with oversized sunglasses, statement belts, and floppy hats for an effortlessly cool and vintage-inspired ensemble that is bound to turn heads. I love the 90s and grunge style never went out for me, so I’m SO glad to see that back. Does this mean that Y2K is on its way out? Maybe not, but I think the more alternative side of the 70s is coming back.
- Alluring Cutouts and Sheer Delights:
If you’re looking to make a bold and playful statement, cutouts and sheer fabrics are here to fulfil your fashion fantasies. Strategically placed cutouts on dresses, tops, and jumpsuits offer tantalizing glimpses of skin, adding a touch of allure to your outfit. Delicate sheer fabrics like mesh and organza create an ethereal and flirtatious appeal, giving your look a light and breezy touch. Embrace geometric cutouts, asymmetrical designs, or graceful sheer overlays to showcase your unique style and captivate those around you. Something I’ll be looking for when shopping is sheer fabrics, they’re great on their own but perfect to layer up and create something interesting. This Glassworks dress I have on here is a perfect example of a subtle cutout that makes a dress more interesting – and also cooler to wear when its hot. They have it in plenty of colours, too.
- Vibrant Prints and Patterns:
Get ready to infuse your summer wardrobe with a burst of colour and energy through vibrant prints and patterns. Tropical motifs, abstract designs, and animal prints are set to steal the show. Embrace eye-catching floral dresses, statement-making leopard print skirts, or playful geometric tops to make a style statement. Feel free to experiment with mixing and matching different prints for a fun and eclectic ensemble that reflects your vibrant personality. Remember, confidence is your best accessory when rocking these bold prints! The dress I’m wearing below is from Forever New, the perfect place for any wedding guest or occasionwear dresses that are classic but still trend-led. The Aussie brand really knows how to make a beautiful print with a flattering silhouette.
- Effortlessly Chic Tailoring:
Say hello to relaxed tailoring, the epitome of effortless chic for summer 2023. Oversized blazers, wide-leg trousers, and breezy shirt dresses strike the perfect balance between sophistication and comfort. Opt for lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton to keep things cool and relaxed. Pair an oversized blazer with shorts for a stylish twist or go for a relaxed suit that exudes modern empowerment. With relaxed tailoring, you can embrace both style and comfort, making it ideal for the woman on the move. Tailoring is something I’ve wanted to really try for a while now, so I know I’ll end up in Zara this summer hoping to find my dream beige/cream suit that I’ve had on my wishlist for a while now.
