Setting goals for the year is something that many people do. Whether you choose to call them resolutions or not, having something to focus on that improves your life and wellbeing helps to keep you on the right track.
When thinking about your goals, make sure they are achievable. You could always set mini goals along the way to keep you motivated and on the right path. Here are four milestone achievements for you to work towards in 2025.

1. Run a marathon
Marathons are often seen as one of the toughest achievements in running. For some, running 26.2 miles seems impossible, so be realistic about what you can achieve in a year.
If you are an experienced runner, upping your training to marathon level should be an achievable challenge. If you want to really motivate yourself, sign up for an organised marathon. You could go for one of the huge ones like the London Marathon, or maybe a locally organised one. This gives you a timeframe to plan towards which will keep you on track.
2. Learn to drive
If you’re one of those people who still has a green provisional licence, 2025 is your sign to change that.
Take the first steps to getting yourself on the road by researching local driving instructors or ask for recommendations from friends and family. Alternatively, you can have someone above the age of 21 with three years of experience teach you.
You may want to buy a used car to practice in and get you on the road the second you pass your test. Used cars are great for being reliable and easier on your bank balance.
3. Purchase a home or save for a deposit
Purchasing your first home is an incredibly big achievement. The sense of accomplishment and pride that comes with it is unrivalled, as it often comes after a lot of saving and stress!
It is perfectly normal to not be at this stage though. The process from saving to getting the keys can take years. Instead, start a savings account specifically for a house deposit. Different bank accounts will benefit different scenarios so make sure you pick the best one for you.
If you are worried about saving enough, make a budget. Work out your income against your outgoings. Now you will be able to see your residual money and can decide how much to set aside. Alternatively, you could start a side hustle or do overtime with the mindset that any money earned with be for a deposit.
4. Learn a new skill
Some of the milestones mentioned have been big, life-altering goals, but you can choose something a bit lighter. Is there a skill you’ve always wanted to learn because it looks fun or may benefit you in the future? Now is the time to start learning.
Having a new hobby such as learning circus skills, knitting your first scarf or undertaking first aid training can act as a useful break from your daily life. As long as you find it fun, learning any type of new skill will be beneficial to your wellbeing.
