Best Ways to Stay Entertained Whilst Travelling

June 20, 2025 by Katie Meehan Leave a Comment

Long journeys can be particularly taxing on the attention span, with boredom only ever a few minutes away if you’re not properly equipped. Cramped on a budget flight for a few hours, cruising down the motorway going on and one, taking a long train journey to visit relatives. All can leave you frustrated with time to kill. So, take a look at the options below for how you can keep yourself entertained as you get from A to B.

Engage with Audiobooks and Podcasts

For those in the driver’s seat, the options can be a little more limited as your attention needs to be focused on the road. However, there’s plenty of entertainment in the audio medium beyond your beloved playlist or favourite album.

Audiobooks and podcasts have revolutionised how we consume content on the go, turning travel time into something genuinely productive or entertaining. This goes for those on commutes or travelling too, with plenty of true crime mysteries, current affairs shows and  classic novels to engage with. Even better if you can find a podcast or audiobook about the place you’re about to visit if you’re going on holiday.

Play Mobile Games

Today’s smartphones offer incredible gaming experiences that can go up against console games for hours spent. Whether you’re into brain-teasing puzzles, strategic challenges, or something more casual like top slot games, there’s definitely something to suit your taste.

The range of high end games has exploded too, meaning there are games with crossplay so any progress made can carry over to your main gaming setup. For example, if you’re a fan of Genshin Impact or Fortnite, you can keep playing on the go provided you have a stable internet connection.

Enjoy Classic Travel Games

Got a full house travelling with you? Why not bust out a more traditional travel game like I-Spy or 20 questions for a more communal experience that gets everyone involved. It can help you engage with the scenery and create some genuinely memorable moments from sheer ridiculousness.

Not only do they require no equipment and little explanation, you can also make your own variations of classic games. In the UK, many have played punch buggy or Eddie Stobart where you nudge another person when you spot one, but why stop there? Why not make the game about spotting horses on signs or in fields and keep score throughout the journey!

Watch Downloaded Movies and Series

If you’ve got a little time to prepare for a long journey in the backseat or packed onto a plane, why not download a bingeable TV or favourite comfort film to keep you company. Many streaming services now offer offline downloads so you can continue watching when signal is scarce and Wi-Fi isn’t about.

Next time you’re facing a lengthy journey, remember that preparation is everything. A bit of forward planning can transform even the most tedious travel experience into something genuinely enjoyable.
